Obituary for Craig Gordon Newton

Craig  Gordon  Newton
Craig Gordon Newton- age 67 of Farwell, passed away on Saturday, June 20, 2015. Craig was born to parents Carl Lyman and Leola Faye (Swayze) Newton on January 23, 1948, in Pontiac, MI. He was a graduate of Seaholm High School in Birmingham, and pursued his undergraduate degree in Social Work at Michigan State. He continued his education receiving his Master’s Degree from Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. He was married on December 27, 1983 to Merla Snider, in Lansing and together they raised two children. Craig had a heart for troubled youth and served as both a Youth Counselor and Substance Abuse Counselor for all ages. He guided youth through Wilderness Programs, was deeply involved with the Nokomis Challenge Center, and loved his life as a wilderness instructor. He had a love of golfing, and was a multi-talented musician playing his guitar, piano, and drums, and spent time singing and performing in Nursing Homes and Meal Centers. He is survived by his sons; Daniel Morris Newton of East Lansing, Adam Tyler Reece and wife Nikki of Ionia, daughter Kathryn Newton and fiancé’ Samuel Duwe of Norman, Oklahoma, two grandchildren; Gabriel and Mason Reece, and two brothers; Ty Newton and wife Susan of Muskegon, and Kim Newton and wife Debbie of Ft. Myers, FL. A funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 4PM at the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Farwell. Pastor Don Creiglow of the Unity Church of Clare will officiate. Friends may visit prior to the funeral service from 2-4PM. Memorial considerations to the Clare County Animal Shelter, 4040 Hazel Road, Harrison, MI 48625.
