Michael Marcus Oman- age 69 of Lake, passed away on Sunday, January 13, 2019. Mike was born on August 7, 1949 in Reed City, to parents Stanley and Barbara (Tinkham) Oman of Lake. Mike graduated from Farwell Area High School in 1967. While a student in school Mike participated in 4H and Boy Scouts. He also competed with the school's Debate Team and was a member of Future Farmers of America. His interest in farming led him to a Soil Technician Program at the Institute of Agricultural Technology at Michigan State University. He accomplished a graduate certificate in that field and went on to be employed at the Zeebe Fertilizer Company and soon after became employed as the plant manager for the Jack Rabbit Bean Plant in Saginaw. While working in the bean plant, he traveled throughout the United States learning about food production and distribution. The plant changed ownership and he was transferred to Colorado for a short time. He then chose to return to Michigan where he worked at a sugar beet plant and later, the Webberville Grain Co-op and also an auto parts plant. After living in Burt, Michigan for over 40 years, Mike returned to the Oman family farm in Lake. He renewed old friendships and made new friends too. Over the years Mike was active in his community and supported many church activities in Methodist churches in But, Saginaw, and Clare. He was recognized for his service to the homeless in the Saginaw area and was an enthusiastic supporter of the new daycare center at the Clare United Methodist Church. Michael will be sadly missed by his sister Elaine and husband William Paine of Farwell, brother Patrick and wife Deb Oman of Lake, sister Lisa and husband Dale Roland of Lake, three nieces; Heidi Johnston, Beth Ann Oman Shadick, Erin Roland, two nephews; Steven Oman, James Roland, five great nephews, and two great nieces, his faithful furry friend and companion Mr. Sleepy. A memorial service and celebration of Michael's life is planned for Saturday, January 19th at the Lake Baptist Church at 11AM. Family and friends may visit at the church from 10AM until the time of service at 11AM. Pastor Terry Hose will officiate. His final resting place will be in the North Brinton Cemetery.
