Leon Arnold Gamble, Jr.- age 91 of Farwell, departed this life on May 6, 2019. Leon was born on February 24, 1928 in Boyne City, the son of Leon Arnold and Tressa Mae (Brunges) Gamble, Sr. Leon proudly served the United States in the Army during WWII until 1946 and was honorably discharged. He was married to Phyllis in 1951 and together they raised three children. Leon was a railroad enthusiast who spent countless hours watching trains in Porter IN and loved to spend a summer weekend following the freighters through the Soo Locks. He loved fly fishing and did so in his younger years on the Tobacco River. He loved deer hunting as well, and took his last deer while hunting with his grandchildren when he was 78 years old. He continued to hunt until he was 80. As a longtime resident of Clare County, he owned the local Texaco gas station on McEwan in Clare in the mid 1960’s. He was an avid mechanic for over 50 years with various companies in the surrounding area. Leon is survived by his wife of 68 years, Phyllis, three children; Dave Gamble and wife Donna of Fowlerville, Valerie Gamble of Lapeer, Dawn Kortman and husband Todd of Johannesburg, nine grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, three sisters; Pat Davison and husband Bernie of Farwell, Peg Weidemann of Cadillac, and Charlene Willmeng and husband Jerry of Watervliet. He was preceded in death by a brother Robert Gamble, and two sisters, Kay Lynn and JoAnn Grace Gamble. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 11, at 11AM from the Campbell-Stocking Funeral Home in Farwell. Pastor Connie Bongard will officiate. Leon will be laid to rest in Surrey Township Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the American Legion Post #558 following the service.
