James (Jim) E. Schleicher, of Lake, passed away at the age of 92 on Monday, May 20, 2019 at Prestige Place in Clare, MI. He was born December 22, 1926 in Detroit, the son of Carl and Emma Schleicher. Jim joined the Merchant Marines during WWII immediately after graduating from East Detroit High School. He loved being at sea and enjoyed the many ports he visited while sailing completely around the world. He returned home to marry his high school sweetheart, Dolores. In 1950 he graduated from the Detroit Police Academy and worked his way through the ranks up to Detective Sergeant. Jim retired in1976 and they built a home on 40 acres in Lake, MI. Hundreds of trees were planted on the once pasture land, he gardened, raised chickens, and maintained manicured trails throughout his little piece of paradise. During those retirement years he was elected as a Coldwater Township Trustee and also served as Sexton. Jim is survived by his daughter Nancy Burkhart and her husband Steve Otte; his son Jim and wife Sharon; granddaughter Laura Schleicher; great-grandson Seth Burkhart; and his siblings Robert Schleicher and Thomas Schleicher. He is predeceased by his wife Dolores and grandson James Burkhart. A celebration of life memorial gathering will be located at his daughter’s home at 2241 Oakridge Dr., Farwell, on June 15th at 1PM.
