Herman Curtis Roland -age 92 went home to be with the Lord on July 4, 2019, surrounded by family. He was born in Malden, Missouri April 2, 1927 to parents Arthur Owen and Lillian (Jones) Roland. Herman was drafted into the army in 1945 and served his country in Casablanca, Morocco. His family moved to Michigan where he met and married Loretta Pugh. Herman and Loretta made their home in the Grand Blanc area and raised their three children. Loretta proceeded him in death in 1972 Shortly after that he moved to Lake. Herman was a carpet and tile technician by trade. His hobbies included motorcycles, building, and camping. His hobbies brought out other talents which developed into designing and building several homes, a motorcycle trailer and he customized his travel van. He started mountain climbing later in life and accomplished a climb of Longs Peak at age 67 and Mt. Evans at age 72.

Herman is survived by his children: Curtis Roland and wife Jerri, Esther and husband Loren Chiles, Dale Roland and wife Lisa. He has eight grandchildren: Brian (Britt), Aaron (Kelly), Mark (Katherine) and Adam Chiles and Stephanie (Greg) Sperkoski, Tim, James, and Erin Roland. Seven great grandchildren: Gavin, Braeden, Rory, Sophie, and Ethan Chiles, and Mariah and Garrett Sperkoski.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 8th, from 6:00 to 8:00 at Campbell Stocking Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Farwell Michigan and again on Tuesday, July 9th, from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at Lake Baptist Church, 9144 Gibson Ave in Lake, prior to the service at 11:00 AM. Pastor Terry Hose will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of the American Legion Post #558 with a lunch to follow.
