Obituary

Gerald Eugene Bemis- age 71 of Farwell passed away on Monday, November 4, 2019 in Midland.

CROSSING THE BAR

Sunset and evening star,
And one clear call for me!
And may there be no moaning of the bar,
When I put out to sea

But such a tide as moving seems asleep
Too full for sound and foam
When that which drew from out the boundless deep
Turns again home

Twilight and evening bell,
And after that the dark!
And may there be no sadness of farewell,
When I embark;

For tho’ from out our bourne of Time and Place
The flood may bear me far,
I hope to see my Pilot face to face
When I have crost the bar.
Alfred Lord Tennyson [1889; publ. 1889]

One of my favorite memories of Butch.....Me and Steve decided to surprise Dad one day. We lived out of state, so it was gonna be a really big surprise! I said "But what if he's not there?" Steve says "Oh he'll be there or at the lake or close by" So we drive up and Kay and Butch are not home. So we drive to the lake to wait and show up at their house and lo and behold, they show up at the lake. 3 things I remember about that day. 1. How did Steve know they would be at the lake? 2. Kay's face when she recognized we were there. 3. Butch's excitement. Butch said, "2 times in one year" He was so excited to see Steve and I was so happy to see those guys! That wasn't the last memory of Butch. After Steve died, we talked on the phone and I could tell he was hurting, but he had that way of making you feel at ease. His laughter was as infectious and Steve's. My heart goes out to Kay and the kids. I miss him too.

One time me and Steve drove up to surprise Butch and Kay....."I said but what if they're not home?" Steve said "They'll be there or at the lake or come home soon." So we went up there unannounced and they weren't home, so we went to the lake behind the house and it was cold! We played around the lake a little and saw Butch's truck pull up. I remember two things from that day....1. How did Steve know they would come there? 2. The look on Kay's face when she recognized that it was us. My heart goes out.
