Russell Joseph Heffron – Age 93, longtime resident of Lake, passed away early Thursday morning at Pioneer Golden Estate of Clare, Michigan. Russell was born to parents Joel and Ora Heffron on July 22, 1926 in Newaygo. Russell was a proud WWII veteran. He served with the US Army Air Corps in North Africa and Italy as an airplane and engine mechanic and a MP. He earned a victory medal and an overseas service bar. After his honorable discharge he turned to long haul truck driving. Russell was a Golden Age Eagle member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles in Lake, as well as a member of the VFW Aerie 3761. He loved to build and fly planes; anything that could get him in the air, and he eventually picked up the hobby of clock making, he loved fishing and was passionate about his Harley Motorcycles. Russell is survived by his children Diane Heffron, Randy James (Sandra) Heffron, Deanne (Roger) Snider, grandchildren Corey, Trisha, Marlena, Tiffany, Tammy, Raymond, Ryan, Danielle, Anita and Joseph, as well as 25 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren, and a brother Dennis (Lois) Heffron of Harrison. Russell was preceded in death by two sons, Rusty Joseph and Ricky J. Heffron. Honoring Russell’s wishes, a cremation has taken place, and a memorial service is being planned for Saturday, January 11, 2020, at 11AM at the Lake Eagles Aerie # 3761, 8460 Ludington Dr. Lake, MI 48632.
