Mildred Gladys Ballard – age 100 passed away on January 27, 2020 at North Woods Nursing Center of Farwell, MI just a few months shy of her 101st birthday. Mildred was born on May 5, 1919 amidst the Congressional approval of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing suffrage to women, and the signing of the Treaty of Versailles to end World War I. Over the course of the century that was her lifetime, Mildred bore witness to some of the most progressive as well as some of the most tragic cultural and historical events recorded. She grew up during the Roaring 20’s, at the age of ten the Great Depression began. At 22 years old she watched on as Pearl Harbor unfolded and she went on to survive World War II and so much more. Despite it all, she never lost her good sense of humor. Mildred raised three sons and a daughter, and she loved telling them stories, many of those stories versifying the differences between right and wrong. Mildred enjoyed playing Skip-Bo. She will be missed.
