Gary Joe Carpenter- age 72 of Lake, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his family. Gary was born on December 28, 1947 to parents Eugene and Mildred (Stephens) Carpenter in Durand, Michigan. Gary proudly served in the United States Navy from Oct 1967 until his honorable discharge in September 1971. He served aboard the USS Prairie and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. Gary was married on September 24, 1988 to Sharon Kaye Graham in Reno, NV. Gary loved ice cream, going to the casino, and watching cartoons with his great-grandson Zaidan who was his whole entire world. He is survived by his wife of nearly 32 years, Sharon, sons Joe Carpenter and wife Pam of Imlay City, Jim Ptacek and wife Kim of Flint, daughters; Jacki White and husband Toivo of Indian River, Heidi Carpenter of White Pine, Sherril Zupp and husband John of Marysville, OH, twelve grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, brothers Tom and Dick Carpenter, and sister Phyllis Johnson. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, a son David Ptacek, brothers James and David and a sister Signe. A funeral service is planned for Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 11AM at the Campbell Stocking Funeral Home, Farwell. Mr. Fred Roberts will officiate. Friends and family may visit on Wednesday, from 4 to 8PM. Memorial considerations for Zaidan Ptacek in care of Amber Ptacek.Honoring Gary’s wishes a cremation will take place following the funeral service.
